When creating reading products I strive to fix problems that I had when teaching my boys to read. I found myself scouring library shelves looking for books that had easy-to-read CVC words with few sight words. It was shocking to discover how hard this is! Have you found yourself in this position? Perhaps you want to give the gift of reading to your child but are unsure where to start. Many think that once their child learns their alphabet, they need to learn sight words…however, this is untrue. While sight words are important, they should not be the next step. Worry no more! I have created for you Short A Family Worksheets!

The next step after your child has mastered their alphabet is either to continue other aspects of the alphabet. However, if you are ready to move on to the next step it should be CVC words or words that have a vowel, consonant, vowel pattern. These words would be CAT, BAT, SIT, MAN, CAN, VAN…you get the idea. This allows the child to now put all those letter sounds together in an easy-to-read and decode pattern!
