Description
Are you looking to teach your child to read? It can be overwhelming, trust me I know! I have been there. I created these UG Word Family Worksheets just for you!
Seeing my son crying in the corner of the room made me feel helpless. I was fed up, he was fed up, and we were butting heads constantly. I wanted to see him succeed at reading. The problem was that he had no motivation for reading. Feeling like I was failing my son, so I turned to my local library. I was shocked at how little there was on how to teach your child to read. My son got overwhelmed easily, so I was looking for something with few sight words and a lot of CVC words. These were hard to come by.
So as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. Now if you are finding yourself in the same situation you have come to the right place. I have created CVC Family Worksheets and imparticular CVC UG Word Family Worksheets.
What is Included in the CVC UG Word Family Worksheets?
- 7 Worksheets to help your child practice building CVC word skills.
- 1 decodable reader
- Confidence to continue reading and building skills
First, start your child off with the first page of worksheets, even spending a day or more just on one worksheet. Then, build words with letter tiles, or magnet letters. Consider laminating these worksheets. For example, EXPO markers work great for these types of activities. However, I will suggest not focusing on sight words. Allow your child to build skills in letter sounds and CVC Family Words first. Then, as your child moves through the worksheets, they will build their confidence in their reading skills. Finally, by the time they have worked through all the worksheets, they will be ready to move on to the CVC decodable reader. Here are some tips to build confidence in your child’s reading skills:
- First on Day 1- You read the story to your child- yep it’s that simple! Talk about the story. For example, what do you see? What do you think it would feel like to be in the story? What colors, shapes, animals, or other things do you see in the pictures?
- Then on Day 2- You read the words, and your child repeats them after you
- Next on Day 3- You and your child read out loud at the same time
- Finally on Day 4- Encourage your child to take the reigns! They will have built a strong foundation of being able to read and recognize these new words!
- Watch your child’s face light up as they have just read a whole story all on their own!
