Description
Get the reading journey started with these ED Word Family Worksheets. Using simple CVC word patterns you can help your child build the confidence needed to develop reading skills. A CVC word is a word that follows the consonant, vowel, and consonant pattern.
When teaching your child to read, start with letter sounds. Once your child has mastered their letter sounds they have the ability to sound out simple cvc words. Cvc words would be words such as CAT, MAT, BAT, BUN, SUN, RUN…etc.
When I was teaching my boys to read I had a hard time finding books that had more CVC words, and few sight words. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, so I created these simple ED word family worksheets so you wouldn’t be left in the dark like I was.

Anytime you are teaching your child to read follow these simple steps
- Day 1-You read the story to your child as they follow along
- Day 2-Read the words and have the child repeat the words after you, as they are following along
- Day 3-Read the story at the same time as your child in a sort of “echo reading”
- Day 4-Have your child try out their new reading skills by reading independently.
Do not worry if your child cannot read the story by the end of the 4th or 5th day. Just keep repeating the practice sessions, and give them plenty of time!
