Can You Use Essential Oils for Cleaning Your Home?
The answer is absolutely! I have been doing so for 8 months now. My boys did not enjoy the smell of Tea Tree Oil, and to be honest, at first neither did I. However, over time we have come to enjoy the smell that Essential Oils provide in our home.
Why Use Essential Oils in Your Home?
Essential Oils (EO for short) have powerful antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. This will help you get off to a good start when eliminating harmful toxins and chemicals in your home. Don’t get me wrong, I have not completely changed over to all essential oils in my home. My husband still insists we have Lysol and bleach, and I can understand his hesitancy. (Especially because we have the urge to gut our bathrooms every week when it comes time to deep clean.) Life with boys. *Sigh*)
However, ideally, I would like to learn more about EO. I want to explore other ways they can benefit me in my everyday life. But for now, I have had success using them in cleaning my home. When I cloth-diapered my boys I also used EO to cut down on smells and bacteria. Plus who doesn’t enjoy their home smelling fresh and citrusy after they have cleaned?
Are Essential Oils Cost Effective?
The average American family spends about $680 on cleaning supplies yearly. However, in the last 8 months, I have been able to use my Simply Earth essential oils in a weekly disinfectant wipes solution. I just now need to order more! If that isn’t cost-effective, I don’t know what is!

Use Essential Oils to Clean Your Home With This Quick Tip
I love coming home to a clean house, and so I want to share with you what works well for me to keep countertops and toilets clean! Every morning before I leave the house I take one DIY disinfecting wipe and starting in my kitchen I wipe down all counters and any appliances. Then I wipe down the counters in both of my bathrooms. After that, I use the wipe on my toilets in both bathrooms, and when I am done in the laundry it goes!
What Other Essential Oils Can Be Used To Clean? (And be added to your new recipe!)
Lavender, a natural anti-bacterial and anti-odor. Eucalyptus oil is antimicrobial and antiseptic. Wild orange oil is good for purifying while giving a nice citrus scent! Cinnamon oil can be a great way to make your home smell great, but it can also fight off serious viruses and bacteria! Pine oil is a great alternative (think Pine-Sol!) It can kill household bacteria like E. coli and yeast spores. Thyme oil is also antibacterial and antiseptic.
