-ET Word Family Worksheets

I am so excited to tell you about my new -et word family worksheets and decodable reader! This adorable worksheet and reader set is the perfect pairing for a new reader. Try laminating the pages after printing them on cardstock paper, and get to reading. We love using letter tiles or EXPO markers to keep the learning fun and interesting.

When I was teaching my boys to read, I was having a hard time finding simple CVC pattern stories. I created these so you wouldn’t be left in the dark like I was. I wanted to encourage my boys with simple CVC words, with very few sight words.

Sight words should not be a focus when first teaching your child to read. I have planned out these stories so that they do not overwhelm struggling readers, and so your child does not get easily discouraged.

Take a day at a time, keeping things simple. Use one worksheet a day if you wish, and build confidence with every step. By the time your child has finished the worksheets, they will be ready to move on to the decodable reader.

Try these reading tips any time you are reading a new story with your child:

Day 1- You read the story to the child

Day 2- You read a word, and your child reads the same word

Day 3- You do an “echo” reading, at the same time you are both reading the story

Day 4-Your child can now try out their reading skills on their own!

Remember to keep things simple, and enjoy the process. Some kids are ready to read well before others. Be consistent, patient and loving and your child will be begging for another 5 minutes in no time!
