Great timing, I just released these worksheets on rhyming!
Description
Check out what’s new with the -OUSE Rhyming Words Worksheets! Rhyming is such a fundamental building block to developing reading skills. Nursery rhymes, poems, and silly songs can help your child build valuable reading skills. Makeup games with your child while riding in the car, or any other time, a fun iSpy game can work great with rhyming words. “I spy something that rhymes with…” Use flashcards to do a rhyming hunt around the house. Once your child finds the rhyming word, think of other words that rhyme with that same word. The options are endless, keep things simple and have fun.
What is Included in the -OUSE Rhyming Words Worksheets?
- 3 worksheets to build rhyming words such as house, spouse, and mouse. Also included on each worksheet is an additional activity, such as writing practice, and circling additional pictures that rhyme.
- 1 rhyming story “Mouse”
These stories are created with rhyming words but do not expect your child to master these words. Many of the words used do not follow basic CVC word patterns, which your child should master reading before moving on to any other skill. Perhaps consider reading these stories to your child without requiring them to read them, unless you know they understand the word patterns associated with the OUSE word patterns. Here are some tips to go by when reading with your child any level-appropriate book or story.
- Day 1-Read the story to your child
- Day 2-Read the story, then have your child repeat the same word
- Day 3-Read the story at the same time as your child (“echo reading”.)
- Day 4-If your child is ready, allow them to read the story independently
Do not worry if your child is not ready or able to read the story, just give it more practice. Try laminating your OUSE rhyming words worksheets for extended use. We love using letter tiles, alphabet magnets, and EXPO markers with our preschool worksheets.
I hope you enjoy these preschool and kindergarten activity worksheets as much as I enjoyed making them!
